European social reality: the Commission opens a wide public consultation
del 27/03/2007
On 26 February the European Commission opened a public consultation to draw up the “social reality stocktaking” of the EU. Open through to the end of 2007, this consultation represents an unprecedented approach in that the Commission wants above all to listen without at this stage putting forward any proposal or political orientation. The debate is open not only to organisations based in Brussels but also to local and national organisations, all the political actors and European study groups, and indeed to all interested persons. It will be looking at a wide range of issues relating to the challenges facing Europeans at the social level in the context of globalisation. It is only subsequently that the political conclusions will be drawn, in close co-operation with the Member States.
